There are three key aspects in analyzing your computer software
system – (1) new software acquisitions (via purchase or leasing); (2) analysis
of your existing system and (3) development and deployment of solutions.
In this context, a ‘solution’ is a combination (‘bundle’) of
hardware, software and consulting services assembled to solve a specific
problem. Typically to radically improve the efficiency of either a periodic corporate
project (i.e. conducting a communications campaign) or a permanent process,
such as managing relationship with a particular category of stakeholders.
Solutions are usually developed and deployed by a solutions provider (often called a systems integrator). This company has
close partner relationships with major (or not-so-major) hardware and software vendors
and consulting capabilities in certain areas and industries.
I will discuss solutions deployment in a section Analyzing Your IT Solutions.
